Double Piston Pump || SolidWorks Part Modelling and Assembly

Double Piston Pump has two pistons that are operated by a single crankshaft. These are mostly used to compress the air. These are also called these two-stage pumps. Here, I tried to cover the design of all parts of the double-piston pump and assembly.

I designed the following parts in this tutorial:

    1. Casing - This is the first part which holds all other parts.

1. casing

    2. Cover & Crankshaft - The cover is a part that holds the second side of the crankshaft with a bearing and is bolted to the main casing with four bolts.

2. Cover & Crankshaft

    3. Connecting Rod & Rod Cap - These are mounted on the crankshaft, which connects the piston to the crankshaft.

3. Connecting Rod & Rod Cap

    4. Pistons - There are two pistons as this is a double-acting pump. The first vertical piston has a larger diameter than the second horizontal.

4. Pistons

    5. Cylinders - These are key parts of assembly, where the fluid is getting compressed.

5. Cylinders

    6. Pin, bearing, sleeve, dipstick & flange - The pins hold the piston and connecting rods. The bearing is a simple ball-type. The sleeve connects two cylinders externally. This can reduce the fluid temperature by a negligible amount. A dipstick is used to check the lubricating oil level. The flange holds the sleeve and input/output ports of the cylinder firmly with bolts and nuts.

6. Pin, bearing, sleeve, dipstick & flange

    7. Check Valve Parts & sub-assembly- This is used to control incoming fluid entering the cylinders. This sub-assembly is carried out for an easy, final assembly.

7. Check Valve Parts & sub-assembly

        8. Final Assembly- Here is the final assembly of the Double Piston Pump, where you will come to know how to insert ISO bolts and nuts with the required dimensions from the Solidworks design library. Here you will also come to know about the Smart Fastner tool of SolidWorks Assembly.
